| DDL Distillery |
Demerara Distillers, operating this multi faceted distillery in Guyana, is today the largest supplier of bulk rums and alcohols from the Caribbean to brand owners in North America and Europe. The distillery produces in excess of 26 M litres annually, and exports to brand owners such as Diageo, Jim Beam Brands and Allied Distillers, approximately 7M litres per annum.
The production of the highly sought after Demerara rums begins with the fermentation process. The fermentation process involves adding yeast to molasses, to produce rum. At the Demerara distillery, rum is produced strictly from molasses - molasses is the thick, sluggish liquid (a byproduct of the crystallization process in sugar production.) The molasses used at the distillery, is obtained from the local sugar factory.
